A Peaceful Day in Dirang – Snowy Peaks, Stupas & Hot Springs | Arunachal Pradesh Day 3
Overview: After two eventful days exploring the beauty of Arunachal Pradesh, Day 3 in Dirang turned out to be a soul-stirring experience, filled with calm landscapes, spiritual encounters, and warm moments—both literally and emotionally.
🌄 Waking Up to Snow-Kissed Views
The day began at Brokpa Estate, our charming homestay in Dirang. As we stepped outside, we were greeted by a bright, sunny morning with crystal-clear visibility of the snow-covered mountains at a distance—thanks to the overnight snowfall. It was the kind of view that instantly lifts your mood and reminds you of the magic of the mountains.
🛕 Exploring the Sacred Circles of Mandala Top
Post breakfast, we set off to Mandala Top, located around 30 minutes from Dirang town. At an altitude of nearly 10,000 ft, this unique site is home to 108 Buddhist stupas, beautifully placed in concentric circles. Each stupa is etched with the sacred mantra Om Mani Padme Hum and was built by individual families from the region—making it not just a spiritual site, but also a strong symbol of community bonding.
Surrounded by pine forests, prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, and absolute silence, Mandala Top felt like a world far removed from everyday chaos.
🧘♂️ A Spiritual Pause at Thupsung Dhargye Ling Monastery
Back in Dirang, we visited the elegant and peaceful Thupsung Dhargye Ling Monastery. More than just a place of worship, this monastery is a learning center for Tibetan Buddhism. The name was given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and it translates to “Place of Flourishing of the Buddha’s Speech”.
With its serene ambience, colorful murals, and panoramic views of the surrounding valley, the monastery invites you to slow down and just breathe.
🥟 A Plate of Momos and a Warm Break
By now, it was lunchtime—and what better way to refuel than with a plate of steaming hot momos at a local restaurant? Freshly made and perfectly spiced, they were just what we needed after a cold morning in the hills.
♨️ Nature’s Warmth: Dirang Hot Springs
After lunch, we made our way to the natural hot springs of Dirang, where the water maintains a steady temperature of around 35°C. Nestled near the riverbank, the springs are a popular stop for both locals and travelers. The warm water flowing through the rocks felt soothing against the chilly mountain air—like nature’s own spa.
🌅 Sunset by the Riverfront
As the sun began its descent, we headed to the Dirang riverfront. The quiet gurgle of the river, golden reflections on the water, and cool breeze made it an ideal place to unwind. We could have easily spent hours here, simply sitting by the rocks and soaking in the moment.
🍵 Wrapping Up with Chai and Pakoras
Back at Brokpa Estate, we ended our day with a plate of crispy pakoras and hot tea. It was a cozy close to a day that blended nature, culture, and calm in perfect harmony.
