Masinagudi: Amidst nature

Overview: A beautiful village on the foothills of Nilgiris on the way to Ooty which has something to offer everyone. Just on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border after crossing Bandipur forest area, we come across a slice of magic which is Masinagudi. Surrounded by hills and forests all around, it is just about a perfect destination for a weekend.
One of the most important things to do here is relaxing and it serves as a welcome break from city life. The only noise which could be heard is the chirping of the birds and falling leaves. Our programme was of 2 days here with first day reserved for relaxation and the second day for some trekking before driving back to Bangalore.
We checked in to a nice resort called Jungle Hut. After a warm welcome from the staff, we had an early lunch and settling into small tents which gave an excellent feeling of camping in the middle of a jungle. We played some games in the evening and decided to go for a night safari. It was as exciting as it sounded. Spotted a herd of deer in the beginning but had to travel a long way to get a sight of Bison and elephant. It gave a fierce look in the dark so we decided to rush back. The night safari was a great experience. We then spent some time near the bonfire before dinner.

Day2: Day2 started off nicely with the morning rays of the sun cutting the hills into halves. We got a chance to spot a few deer as well early morning. After having tea and some biscuits we set off for a light trek towards the hills. An hour and a half of upclimbing we came across dense forests, some waterfalls and not to mention some breathtaking scenery from the top. Also we saw some pugmarks belonging to some wild animal. The entire trek lasted for around 2.5 hours after which we rested for a while.
The resort staff was kind enough to offer us a complimentary lunch even though it wasn't included in our package. We decided to wind off by 4pm with nice memories of the trip.
But things got better on the way as we were lucky to spot a lot of animals on the way like the Bison, wild elephant, deer, peacock, and wild boar. The trip was really a memorable one and certainly deserves a second visit..

How to reach: By own vehicle- SH17 towards Mysore, continue on Mysore-Ooty road, after crossing Bandipur, drive for around 15 kms towards Theppakadu. At Theppakadu, turn left towards Masinagudi.
By public transport: Plenty of direct buses ply from Bangalore to Ooty and Mysore to Ooty. But buses are not permitted via Masinagudi so they have to turn right at Theppakadu to go to Ooty via Gudalur. To reach Masinagudi, one can hire a jeep from Theppakadu.
Food/Accomodation: Plenty of resorts are available in Masinagudi which offer good service.
