Hosur & Thorapalli: Quick getaways

Hosur & Thorapalli: Quick Getaways

Overview:
I have been travelling on Hosur Road for several years now and also passed through Hosur on numerous occasions, totally ignoring the town next door. So we thought of exploring the little town which is like a gateway to Tamil Nadu from this side of Karnataka. Hosur is just 22 kms from Electronics City and usually takes less than 1 hour to reach the town.
Hosur is a typical town in Tamil Nadu, very crowded and chaotic. There is a street full of vegetable vendors and hardly any space to move in between. We passed through the streets of Hosur and decided to pay a visit to C Rajagopalachari or commonly known as Rajaji's native place, Thorapalli. The native village of the last Governor- General of India is around 12 kms from Hosur. The road leading to this place is pretty decent and the village is well known so can ask for directions from the locals.
The village is really quaint like any other village in India. The old house of Rajaji is well maintained with artefacts from various stages of his life. Its a good place and provides a lot of information of the great man. We completing a round of visit at Thorapalli, we started back towards Hosur town.

We visited the famous Chandrachoodeshwara temple which is on top of a hillock near the Hosur bus stand. This temple is probably visible from all parts of Hosur as it is in the center of the town. The temple, though not a huge one, but is attractive and the stone pillars give it a classic look. The balmy evening sun was showering its blessings on the tall gopuram and the birds chirping made it look so pleasant. From the top, the Hosur Lake is visible which adds to the beauty.

It was already late evening by the time we made our way out of the temple, so we missed out on Kelevarapalli Dam which is 10 kms from Hosur.
How to reach:
Hosur can be taken up as a half day trip. Travel through NH 7, drive straight to Hosur. For Thorapalli, take the Rayakottai road, at Onalvadi, turn left to reach Thorapalli.
Regular buses available from Bangalore to Hosur. From Hosur, autos can be hired to reach Thorapalli.

  1. Looks like a nice quiet place. Great pics, Arun.

There's a Thorapally near Gudalur (on the Mysore- Gudalur route, near the Mudumalai area) Initially, I thought you were talking about that place. :)
