Northern Ireland - 1: A visit to the historic city, Belfast 

Overview: Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, is one of the most visited cities in the UK. We walked around the city to get a flavour of Belfast. Recovered from the 'Troubles' in the 1990s, the city has emerged as one of the best cities of the world. We can still see the murals from those times on Shankill Road. There is a 60 feet wall which separates the Catholics and Protestant areas.
One of the main attractions of Belfast is the Belfast Castle dating back to 12th century built by the Normans. The Castle built on the slopes of a hill overlooks the city.
Belfast is also known for the Titanic, which was built in the city’s docks before starting its fateful voyage from Southampton in 1912.
Belfast also boasts of a rich musical culture with many Irish bands based out of Belfast.

How to reach: Belfast has direct road/rail links from the Republic of Ireland. From other parts of the UK, Belfast is connected through ferry links.
Food/Accommodation: Belfast caters to visitors from all communities and has all kinds of restaurants.

    Yeah, I read a lot about Belfast in shipping related news. I think they have or had a big ship building facility here. Beautiful pictures.

  Overview: Killing time for 4 days on a long weekend was definitely not going well with me. So suddenly decided to make some quick travel plans. Being brought up in Chandigarh for over 20 years, I wanted to refresh my childhood memories with my wife and moreover she had not been to North India. With all resorts booked around Bangalore and no bus reservations available, we decided to take a plunge on the long distance route. My wife, being a tatkal reservation expert :), booked tickets from Bangalore to Delhi for 25th Dec, and the return trip by flight from Delhi to Bangalore for 4th Jan. My job was to fill the itinerary between these days. I wanted to cover as many places as possible, chalked out a plan for that. Below are the details of the trip: Day 0-2: We had to catch the 12649 Sampark Kranti express from Yesvantpur at 22:10 hrs on 25th Dec. A visit to my native place: The Village of Music, Rudrapatna

Overview:  Situated on the banks of the river Cauvery, Rudrapatna is a beautiful small village in Hassan District of Karnataka with rich history, and happens to be my ancestral village too. This is one of the places where the people from the Sankethi community initially settled around 700 years ago, and were instrumental in modelling this as a 'village of music' or 'Sangeetha Grama' as it is known today. The village is also known for its Sanskrit Paathashaala, at Shankara Math near the Rama temple, which is trying to keep the traditions alive in the village. Rudrapatna Rudrapatna Sankethi community is known for music, and this village has produced many Carnatic musicians like R.K. Suryanarayana, R.K. Srikantan, Rathnamala Prakash, R.K.
