Introduction:

Join me on an exciting adventure as we delve into the lesser-known treasures of Karnataka. Our journey begins in Bangalore, where I embarked on a short flight from the new Terminal 2 of the Bangalore airport. Boarding a Star Air flight, I anticipated a quick journey to Kalaburagi, a city with its own unique charm and history.

Chapter 1: Kalaburagi, a Gateway to the Past

Within a mere 1.5 hours, my flight gracefully touched down at Kalaburagi airport. Despite its small size, the airport lacked convenient transportation options. Faced with exorbitant autorickshaw fares, I discovered an alternative for the more adventurous traveler. Walking just 1 kilometer from the airport, I reached the main road, where I could catch an affordable bus to the city center for just Rs 20. The scorching sun posed a challenge, especially with luggage in tow, but the allure of exploration pushed me forward.

Chapter 2: Unveiling Vijnaneshwara's Legacy in Martur

With the help of a friendly autorickshaw driver, I soon found myself on the outskirts of Kalaburagi, where my dear friend Girish awaited. Our destination: Martur, a quaint village located roughly 16 kilometers away. As we traversed the barren landscape, a silent witness to the late winter season, we felt an air of anticipation.

Upon reaching Martur, we sought out the hidden gem known as the Vijnaneshwara Memorial. Vijnaneshwara, an esteemed 11th-century jurist, penned the influential legal text known as the Mitakshara. This groundbreaking work solidified his place in history, shaping the laws of inheritance and granting women the right to own and inherit property. The Mitakshara inscription, a testament to Vijnaneshwara's brilliance, found its home within the walls of the memorial hall and research center. It saddened us that despite its significance, the Mitakshara remained relatively unknown in Karnataka due to a lack of awareness. Nevertheless, we celebrated the pride of Karnataka, as Vijnaneshwara's treaties played an integral role in drafting our very own constitution concerning inheritance and women's rights.

Chapter 3: Bhankur, a Glimpse into Chalukya Architecture

Eager to explore further, we sought the guidance of a few kind-hearted policemen who directed us to a nearby village called Bhankur. Our destination in Bhankur was an enchanting Jain temple, dating back to the 11th century. As we entered, we marveled at the awe-inspiring architectural marvels that stood before us, a testament to the glorious Chalukya Period. The intricate carvings and delicate stonework transported us to a time long gone, allowing us to appreciate the rich heritage that surrounded us.

Conclusion:

With hearts filled with awe and a hunger for discovery, we bid farewell to Bhankur and returned to Girish's warm abode in Kalaburagi. There, a sumptuous lunch awaited, satisfying both our hunger and our souls. As the late afternoon sun cast its golden glow upon us, I embarked on the next leg of my journey, boarding a train to the captivating district of Raichur. Over the course of the next two days, I would dive deeper into its wonders, unearthing more stories and experiences to share. Join me on this enthralling voyage, as we uncover the hidden treasures of Karnataka, one step at a time.
